For the ninth year running, Missouri Employers Mutual partnered with Missouri One Call System (also known as Dig Rite) to provide excavation safety trainings across the state. This partnership is the only one of its kind in the U.S. MEM and Dig Rite reached more than 2,000 construction workers and other excavation professionals during the 26 meetings in January-March.
Attendance ranged from around 75 in rural locations to upwards of 300 in cities like St. Louis and Kansas City. The free two-hour training provided information that is crucial to job site safety in industries including construction, plumbing, landscaping and municipal utilities. Mark Woodward, Senior Safety and Risk Trainer at MEM, explained that the meetings cover a broad range of topics, from general concepts such as safety awareness and personal safety attitude, to specifics on seat belt usage, trench and confined space safety, roadside work zone safety and digging-related laws.
“We’re proud to provide these free trainings with Dig Rite’s help,” commented Woodward. “It’s a win-win because we’re able to send our policyholders to these meetings, too. They’re all over Missouri and packed with great safety information. We’re looking forward to continuing the partnership in 2019 and beyond.”
