Underwriting Leader Appointed to Missouri Workers’ Compensation Determinations Review Board

Roger Walleck has been named to the Missouri Workers’ Compensation Determinations Review Board. Missouri Governor Mike Parson announced the appointment on Nov. 2 along with several other appointments.

“We are thrilled to have Roger give back to the industry in this way,” Jim Owen, MEM President and CEO said. “He brings more than 40 years of experience to the position, and I’m confident he will use this opportunity for outreach to inform and add transparency to the industry and the people we serve.”

Walleck will serve as the insurance industry representative on the board, which reviews determinations by an insurer or advisory organization regarding items such as class codes, experience rating, assigned risk and other uniform rule interpretations.

Walleck brings extensive experience to the position. He served for six years on the New York Compensation Insurance Rating Board from 1999 to 2005, holding positions also in the governing committee, the budgeting committee, and the rates committee. He served a three-year term on the NCCI Underwriting Committee in the Spring of 2020. He also served as a member of the AASCIF Underwriting Committee in 2019 and 2020.

Walleck serves as Vice President, Chief Underwriting Officer at MEM which includes the Underwriting, Premium Consultation and Safety and Risk Services teams. In this role, he manages agency and policyholder relationships to maximize company profitability and customer service. He also helps develop MEM’s business by leveraging advanced technologies and data analytics and ensures strategic alignment. Walleck joined MEM in 2017 after spending more than a decade in leadership positions at Meadowbrook Insurance Group, most recently as Chief Underwriting Officer and Executive Vice President.
