Jennifer Barth
VP, Chief Legal and Claims Officer

Jennifer Barth is Vice President and Chief Legal and Claims Officer at MEM. In this role, Barth is responsible for leading and counseling the company on a broad range of legal and compliance matters including corporate governance, regulatory compliance and risk management. In addition, she oversees claims and people development and serves as the Corporate Secretary for the company. Barth ensures we uphold the highest legal and claims processing standards and foster a culture of continuous learning within the organization. 

Barth oversees the corporate legal and compliance team, as well as CompLegal, a comprehensive team of lawyers who represent MEM policyholders in claims cases. In 2023, she expanded her leadership oversight to the MEM Claims Department. In this role, she leads a talented team of claims professionals and guides the organization toward improved claim outcomes through strategic leadership and initiatives.

She began her career at MEM in 2005 as Human Resources Manager. In 2009, she became Legal Counsel and worked in that role until she became Vice President and General Counsel in 2012. Prior to MEM, she worked as a Managing Attorney for the State of Missouri, with a focus on employment law.

Barth holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration from Missouri State University and her law degree from the University of Missouri Columbia School of Law. She is a 2008 graduate of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce Leadership Columbia program and a 2013 graduate of the Greater Missouri Leadership Challenge. She completed the Executive Development Program at The Wharton School in 2021.

Barth received her Senior Professional in Human Resources designation through the Society for Human Resource Management and obtained a certificate in Insurance Regulation through The Institutes. She is a current member of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce Women’s Network and City of Columbia Personnel Advisory Board. Barth is currently serving on the Executive Committee for the Hawthorn Foundation.
