MEM to Host Driving Safety Webinar to Address Rise in On-the-Job Traffic Fatalities

April 17, 2021 • Missouri Employers Mutual

In 2020, Missouri Employers Mutual saw a 50 percent increase in work-related fatalities from motor vehicle accidents. This uptick in fatalities, along with the increase in more serious driving related claims, was consistent with the national trend, despite a downtick in miles driven and accidents. It inspired MEM to host a ‘Drive Like It’s Your Job’ webinar from Noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2020. The webinar is free and open to all and attendees may register here.

“Traffic crashes are the number one way to die on the job. One death on the road is too many,” said Jim Owen, President and CEO of Missouri Employers Mutual. “It is going to take a commitment from all of us to get each and every driver home safe to their families.”

MEM saw more than 870 motor vehicle claims over the last five years resulting in $83 million in costs.

MEM has resources available to policyholders and to the public addressing a variety of safety topics including driver safety. In addition, safety and risk services staff offer virtual consultations and safety trainings for employers impacting more than 11,000 employees with training annually.
